New Delhi, July 14-18, 2008

This course is open to civil engineers, architects, urban planners, environment consultants, municipal water managers, policy makers and NGOs interested in learning more about the theory, practice and policies of urban water harvesting.

The programme allows you to gain knowledge, acquire holistic perspectives and get hands-on practice in planning and designing urban water harvesting systems . It will help you to solve real-life water problems of today and give you the unique chance to meet and interact with experts and professional in the field of rainwater harvesting.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Beginning with the science of water harvesting, the course takes you through technologies for use in micro-level catchments of residential and institutional buildings to macro-level catchments of roads, flyovers, parks, urban forests, and other public areas. You will update yourself on recent policy developments and legal and financial incentives for rainwater harvesting. The field trips, films, rigorous practical exercises will help you to internalise the lectures and will help you get started in designing and planning for urban rainwater harvesting.

Overview – Water – yesterday, today and tomorrow
  • Traditions, current paradigms

  • Science of rainwater harvesting
  • Sessions on groundwater, hydrogeology and hydrometeorology

  • Technology of rainwater harvesting
  • Principles, components, planning, design & construction techniques
  • Filters, water quality issues and treatment options
  • Costing, maintenance and monitoring mechanisms

  • Harvesting the city’s water endowment
  • Harvesting rainwater from residential and institutional buildings, colonies, industries, public areas like parks, airports, forested areas etc

  • Policy framework for rainwater harvesting
  • Water policy and legislations
  • Fiscal incentives and disincentives

  • Making water everybody’s business: A primer for action
  • Strategies for catalysing rainwater harvesting
  • Experiences and examples
  •  

    COURSE FEE

    The course is available to you at a fee of only
    Rs. 8,800/-
    per participant (for government, corporate, and international participants). NGO,s and individuals can avail a 50% discount (Rs. 4,400/-).

    Accommodation is not included in the charges.

    The fee is payable in advance through demand draft/cheque drawn in favour of ‘Centre for Science and Environment.


    Note:
    Accommodation can be arranged on request. Cost will have to be borne by the participants. Apply immediately as seats are limited.

    Participants will get a certificate at the end of the course. They will also be made members of waternet of the Anil Agarwal Green Centre. They can interact with fellow participants and exchange news, views and experiences.
