Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) and Continuous Effluent Quality Monitoring System (CEQMS) are mandatory for 17 categories of industries and common pollution treatment facilities in India. Grossly polluting industries also require monitoring and reporting effluent quality on real time basis. In near future, the real time data will become the basis for compliance check.

One of the major activities of environmental governance is the monitoring of environmental components such as water, air, noise quality, etc. The data thus generated needs to be processed through various statistical techniques to meaningful information. This information leads to evolve water/air/noise quality management, science base decision making process for environmental clearance of project and violation detection.
