Work Overview

The association of CSE with Bangladesh was started in 2008, when Bangladesh Environmental Institutional Strengthening Project (BEISP) requested us to conduct a training programme on EIA for the officials of Ministry of Environment and Forests. The sectors covered in the EIA training programme were coal mining, pharmaceutical, pul and paper and coal based thermal power plants.

Work Overview

Community Support Programme is a programme with a vision to help various communities in the country who request CSE for technical support. It aims at those communities which do not have access to such technical support and have issues pertaining to environment in their vicinity.

Mining Overview

Mining is a contentious subject. It generates almost as many viewpoints and positions as the number of its contestants. It is, unarguably, a core industrial sector and crucial for India’s economic growth. It is growing at a rapid pace – between 1993 and 2005, the mining sector showed a compound annual growth rate of 10.7 per cent. It is likely to grow at a much faster rate in coming years. Post-liberalisation, mining is being done not only to satisfy India’s domestic requirements, but also to meet the growing international demand. China, in particular, has emerged as a major market for Indian minerals.

|About Decentralised Waste Treatment

Mainstreaming decentralised wastewater recycling and reuse through research, policy advocacy and training.  The objective is to build a movement across India and in South Asia for onsite wastewater management through networking and partnership with architects/planners, RWAs/institutions, local NGOs/CBOs, ULBs and parastatal agencies for  implementation of model projects.

About Industry & Environment Unit

CSE's Industry and Environment Unit addresses an array of environmental issues related to Indian industries. It conducts research and advocacy on the impact of industrial pollution and provides training in related issues.

Environment Impact Assessment

Our country is in the throes of rapid industrialisation, which is often accompanied with massive environmental and social burdens, principally borne by communities living in the vicinity of project sites. Monitoring tools like Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), therefore, assume great significance in ensuring sound economic development without compromising on environmental and social costs.

About Green Rating Programme

The Green Rating Project (GRP) is an effort to rate industrial units within a specific sector on the basis of their environment friendliness. The project aims at encouraging companies to adopt better environment management policies. Environment risk liability is an issue that is gaining increasing attention in Indian company’s boardroom.

Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute

The Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute, an education and training initiative of CSE, was established to communicate the science, complexity and politics of environment across India, South Asia and the world. It seeks to build a constituency and cadre of knowledgeable, skilled and committed environmentalists – from students, decision-makers, field-level practitioners, civil society groups, journalists, lawyers, and concerned citizens.
