CSE releases assessment of environmental clearances

In the five years of the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-August 2011), there has been an unprecedented scale of environmental clearances issued by the Union ministry of environment and forests. 

EIA analysis of a coal washery project

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) analysed the EIA report of an upcoming coal washery project in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. Raghubeer Pradhan of Ekta Parishad approached CSE to carry out a technical review of this EIA for the public hearing of the project on August 29, 2011.

Public hearing for expansion of UCIL's Bhatin mines violates EIA notification

The public hearing for the expansion of Bhatin mines of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) was held on May 26, 2011. The public hearing was a clear violation the EIA notification and did not allow stakeholders to participate in the process. CSE representative was there to cover the public hearing but was not allowed inside. Read on to know what ensued:
