One-week training programme for Environmental Managers

Environmental management in industry today is not about lip-service. The green performance of companies mirrors their core functioning – be it cost consciousness, good corporate governance, organisational culture, and seriousness of the management to ‘walk the talk’ on operational efficiency and sustainable development.

Work Overview

Based on our years of work in the field, we realised the ineffectiveness of the State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) in their regulatory function.

In order to understand the specificities and to recognise the very issues, we carried out a questionnaire based survey of the various SPCBs. The survey helped us pin-point the specific problems and needs of the state boards. We now plan to develop a Regulator's Training Institute which can help build capacity of our regulators.

 A report by World Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). It highlights the importance for strengthening institutions for environment management in sustaining and accelerating India's growth performance.

This report was prepared in the context of OECD Programme of Environmental Co-operation with Asia and the OECD work on environmental compliance and enforcement in non-member countries. 

Training Needs Assessment: A study on SPCBs/PCCs

A Training Needs Assessment (TNA) survey of the pollution control boards was undertaken by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) during January-March 2009, with support and assistance from theUnion ministry of environment and forests (MoEF).
