National Field Exposure Visit at Bangalore, Chennai and Puducherry
CSE, NFEV at Rainbow Drive, Bangalore- Wastewater management at Neighbourhood scale The “National Field Exposure Visit” has recently been conducted on 8th-11th December, 2016 as a follow up to the second handholding training programme. The exposure visit is part of a five stage handholding process for the preparation of CSPs for select Ganga basin cities.
14 officials from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal states were involved in the National Field Exposure Visits.Participants included state nominated senior offcials from Directorate of local bodies, Jal Nigam Engineers, SPMG officials, executive officers, city managers, sanitary inspectors and civil engineers.
Three cities- Bangalore, Chennai and Puducherry were selected for the exposure visit to showcase BMPs of septage / faecal sludge management. Officials got the opportunity to directly interact with implementers / beneficiaries of the implemented projects resulting in city officials receiving hands-on experience on how to plan, design and implement sustainable septage / faecal sludge management options. City officials also understood the techno-economic feasilibility for planning, designing and implementing BMPs for the same.
The exposure visits to Bangalore, Chennai and Pondicherry were extremely elating and meaningful in the sense that innovative way, decentralised, low cost (both capital and maintenance) wastewater treatment system are successfully working which appeared to have immense potential to be replicated. The exposure visits were eye opener in the field of sanitation, it has given us opportunity to explore the possibility in this field, we have seen that, how medium category municipality can manage their waste.
