Be the change

The city has implemented first generation reforms and clean fuel programs are running successfully. Many projects have been proposed to upscale the public transportation system in the city and the city’s future depends on the implementation and efficiency of these initiatives.
 
Action on vehicles

• The city has introduced Bharat Stage Euro IV norms for vehicles in 2010

• Sulphur content in transport fuels have been reduced to 50 ppm.

• Low smoke 2-T oil and pre-mix facilities are available

• Benzene content in gasoline reduced to 1 percent.

• The city has implemented one of the largest CNG programme in the country. No. of vehicles: 190,926. This includes 1,547 buses, 130,447 autos, 1,829 light commercial vehicles, 56,061 cars and taxis,1,042  other vehicles. There are 136 CNG stations to serve these vehicles

• 15 LPG dispensing stations have been set up

• 5 % ethanol blended gasoline has been introduced

• Old commercial vehicles to be phased out unless they are converted to run on LPG /CNG

• Recommendation of the VM Lal Committee report in restraints on car usage are being examined

Mobility Management

• Monorail is under construction and will start functioning in 2011

• BEST and suburban railway services proposed to be integrated with monorail stations

• New and advanced buses have been introduced in many parts of the city

• BRTS has been proposed for some routes

• Skywalks have been constructed in many parts of Mumbai

Action on industrial pollution

• Some of the polluting industrial units have been relocated away from the city

• Almost all the Industries have been provided with pollution control systems
