The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), India’s premier environmental research institute based in New Delhi, is looking for suitable candidates to work for its Water Programme.
The centre is a designated Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Urban Development in Sustainable Water Management area of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India for research, knowledge dissemination and capacity building for municipal functionaries. Also the centre is designated National Key Resource Centre (KRC) of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India assisting in capacity building of state rural water and sanitation functionaries including Panchayat Raj Institutions.
This is senior level high-visibility and high-impact position that entails high-quality applied research and capacity development activities for mainstreaming best management practices aimed at promoting sustainable water management in both rural and urban context.
The person should:
Strongly self-motivated, able to develop his/her own projects within the overall programme and work in team.
Have a sound knowledge of the water and sanitation sector, major issues, problems and possible solutions.
Have a good working understanding of other organizations groups, and individuals in the water sector including government policies / reforms in both urban and rural water sector.
Have good research and writing skills.
Have a masters’ degree or higher in water management, environment or a related field
Have experience of working with the government, NGOs and bilateral or multilateral agencies.
Have 8-10 years’ experience in the development sector, preferably on issues related to water and environmental sustainability.
You will be part of a tight-knit and dynamic team that works on wide range of issues related to urban and rural water management. The urban water focusing on - water sensitive design and planning, (water audit/budgeting, energy and resources efficiency, water efficiency, rainwater harvesting and decentralized wastewater treatment including reuse), urban water bodies /lake management, septage management, technologies for pollution control and the rural water management focusing on – source sustainability for drinking water, water conservation and sustainable rural sanitation solutions.
Applied research on various topics related to sustainable water management in both urban and rural India.
Writing technical reports as well as developing them into succinct easy-to-use practitioner /user friendly toolkits.
Organizing thematic, state, regional and national workshops and training programmes.
Networking and outreach with diverse relevant groups including both national / state government institutions.
Programme management and managing a multi disciplinary young team.
