About CSE 

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a New Delhi based public interest research and advocacy organization, is currently seeking a Programme Officer for the Compliance Enforcement Team under the Environmental Governance department. 

Established in 1980, CSE over the course of years has been regarded for its rigorous scientific and policy research and advocacy on environmental issues. CSE has made meaningful contributions to shape regulatory policies and bring in changes to make development practices environmentally responsible and socially equitable. Taking into account the challenges of the day, the institution is constantly innovating on ideas and practices that can help realize the vision of a sustainable future.   

About the Compliance Enforcement programme

CSE has been given the task of capacity development of Environmental Regulators in the country and has been working in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for this. The team aims to continue this capacity building of various stakeholders on different environmental issues and also engage in research and advocacy including industrial and environmental pollution. The team has also got recognition to extend its capacity building programmes to the elected representatives from across the country and other government departments dealing with human development. The major work of the team includes writing policy briefs, developing action plans and sensitisation to build the capacity of policy makers, local bodies for better compliance, monitoring and enforcement. We are looking for a Program Officer to work for our Compliance Enforcement Team under the Environmental Governance department. 

The team also works with managers from industry whose responsibility is assuring overall environmental management of the plants. The team carries out capacity building programmes for managers to help them adopt efficient compliance assurance plan as well as prepare themselves for future by capacitating them in the area of climate change, renewable energy, environmental impact assessment, social impact assessment, land acquisition, corporate social responsibility and so on.  

Work Profile

The candidate will be required to substantially contribute to the team’s capacity development work apart from research and advocacy work. Specific tasks will involve-

  • Research on policy matters and contribute to teams capacity development work;

  • Analysis of data/information as required for specific research;

  • Preparation of reports, communication materials, and other publications as necessary;

  • Communicating with a wide range of stakeholders for effective advocacy; 

  • Enhancing network of concerned stakeholders;

  • Travel as required for the team’s work.

Required Skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills and a good hold on technical report writing;

  • Very good oral communication and networking ability;

  • Must be able to work under short deadlines;

  • Ability to think creatively;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Should be disciplined, responsible and flexible with work as per requirements of the team;

  • Most importantly, given the dynamic nature of the teams work, the candidate needs to be extremely motivated and perceptive.

Qualifications and Experience

• Candidates with a B.Tech/ M.Tech in Environmental Engineering or Masters in Environmental Science, with excellent writing and communication skills and having a work experience of 5 - 7 years in the relevant field

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is based in New Delhi.
