Research

The two research studies have to be carried out under the CCBP. These are as under:

  • Case studies on urban rainwater harvesting from different agro-climatic regions
The study will identify and document successful case studies of urban rain water harvesting (RW) one from each region) - one from an area of scanty rainfall and the other from an area of high rainfall for detailed understanding of the potential of RWH.  The documentation will include details on site specific consideration for selection of respective RWH structures along with design specifications, socio-economic evaluation, operation and maintenance, performance monitoring (both qualitative / quantitative and pre-monsoon/post monsoon) for showcasing potential of RWH in water conservation as well as augmentation at the individual and community level (beneficiaries) in addressing current water crises being faced in NURM cities. The case study will provide contact details of the - of the implementer of the of the existing rainwater harvesting structures and bibliography or reference of published report or evaluation studies (if any).

  • Case Studies on Decentralised Wastewater Treatment (DWWT) including Reuse/ Recycle
The research study will identify and document successfully implemented sustainable and affordable decentralised wastewater (sewage) treatment (DWWT) using natural processes including re-cycle / re-use in urban areas. The select case studies will include DWWT implemented at institutioal, community and individual building scale. The documentation will include details of technology choice along with design specifications, socio-economic evaluation, operation and maintenance, performance monitoring (both qualitative / quantitative sustainability indicator) including public perception for showcasing potential of DWWT in addressing  in addressing current wastewater management issues in NURM cities as well as demonstrating feasibility of DWWT. The case study will provide contact details of the - of the implementer of the of the existing project and bibliography or reference of published report or evaluation studies (if any).

  

Both research studies involve extensive desk research to identify the select case studies and interacting with real users/implementers and other stakeholders including field visit. The research methodology and stages of work to be followed in both studies can be summarized as follows –

  • Scoping and Screening for Identification of suitable case studies (September 2012 – February 2013)
  • Field visits and Interviews of implementers/users and other stakeholders (March 2013 – September 2013)
  • Analysis and Draft Report (October 2013 – December 2013)
  • Final Case Study Report including typesetting and design ( January 2014-March 2014)
