PARASU RAM MISHRA

One day P R Mishra walked the length of the stream which feeds Sukhna Lake near Chandigarh. he reached Sukhomajri, a village of barren fields and deprived people. he dreamt of greening the area. He began by involving people in erosion control. He introduced equity in the supply of water. The people played a major role with their participation. They agreed to social fencing. And Sukhomajri became the first village in India to pay income  tax.

P R Mishra never stopped. he moved to Palamau region in Jharkhand and started a unique system of agricultural practice called Chakriya Vikas Pranali, where land, water and society was taken as one complete entity and profits ploughed back into development activities. This ensured sustainable development.

P R Mishra. A true visionary of people centered rural development.

A hero the country cannot afford to forget.
