3 Day Training Programme Towards Sustainable Buildings: Policies and Practices

CSE orgainised a training programme exclusively for the CPWD officers from different technical backgrounds. The three day programme aimed to deepen the understanding of existing policies, their potential and constraints in promoting efficient use of resources and minimizing waste in public buildings. The programme explored the scope of harmonising the policy-driven and market-driven approaches to accelerate the adoption of resource-efficient practices in buildings.

The programme brought together regulators, professionals, academics, activists and researchers together to give an end-end vision of environmental standards of buildings and suggest ways for engaging CPWD in transforming the building sector.Particularly CPWD, as a pan- India construction organisation that sets the optimum standards of quality, safety and durability can transform the public buildings into model sustainable buildings for demonstrating the effectiveness of sustainable design and construction.

The participants were also taken on guided tours to acclaimed green buildings in the Delhi - NCR region. The ITC Green Centre, Gurgaon, IRRAD office building, Gurgaon and the Development Alterantives building in South Delhi. Apart from interacting with the owners of these buildings who explained the whole process, the participants also got to see construction of IRRAD's phase-2 where details of insulation, radiant cooling and other innovative green technologies were showcased by IRRAD's green building consultant.

Overall, the programme was highly appreciated and it was decided to repeat the programme in other regions.
