BUILDING BETTER: Certificate Course for Sustainable Building Practices and Policies

April 15-17, 2015.

CSE organised a training programme on ‘Sustainable building policies and practices’ exclusively for the CPWD officers from different technical backgrounds. The three day programme aimed to deepen the understanding of existing policies, their potential and constraints in promoting efficient use of resources and minimizing waste in public buildings.  The programme explored the scope of harmonizing the policy-driven and market-driven approaches to accelerate the adoption of resource-efficient practices in buildings.

The programme brought together 16 senior officers including Civil, Electrical engineers and Architects to suggest ways for integrating green measures in building practices.

The first day covered sustainable design and policies and had eminent speaker Mr. Sanjay pant representing BIS briefed about importance and vastness of Sustainability. Ar. Ashok Lal explained the Sustainable Architecture practices focusing on passive design and Ar. Deependra Prasad delivered a lecture on prioritizing materials in sustainable design.

The second day covered building energy performance, management and technologies and had speakers from Green tree building energy, Green Horizons and Environmental design solutions. The second day helped to make sense of building energy performance methods, adoption of energy efficient technologies & various parameters and yard sticks required for energy auditing in buildings for periodic examination of energy and efficiency of system. A half-day demonstration was arranged for software-based simulation for understanding to work out the performance of virtual buildings.

The training culminated with a CSE building tour. Participants got to interacting with experts of various CSE programmes and each expert demonstrated on sustainable features of both CSE buildings like RWH, Waste water treatment, solid waste management , Solar PV etc..

The participants indicated in their feedback that they had benefitted from the course and would endeavor to utlise the knowledge that they had gained during the training in their work in order to design and construct sustainable buildings
