Programme Officer for Climate Change(Adaptation) Programme

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable.
CSE’s climate change programme is diverse and deals with mitigation and adaptation aspects of climate change. We are looking for a Programme Officer to work on the adaptation issues of climate change. It involves high quality primary and secondary research report writing and advocacy.


Job Profile:
The candidate will work on a research and advocacy programme to build resilience of farmers with focus on agriculture and food security.

  • The candidate would be required to prepare a report on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) from adaptation perspective and National Adaptation Plan of Action (NAPA)

  • In India, the focus of the work would be on National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC)

  • The candidate would also be required to track negotiations at the international level related to adaptation and loss and damage

 Duties and responsibilities

  • Primary and secondary research and analysis;

  • Writing high quality reports/papers/articles;

  • Field visits;

  • Close interaction with stakeholders- policy makers, farmers, civil society, media etc.;

  • Advocacy through meetings/workshops/conferences in India and abroad;

  • Other related responsibilities as given by Supervisor/Team head.

Competencies required:

  • Thorough understanding of adaptation and loss and damage issues with focus on agriculture, food security, sustainable development and livelihoods

  • A team player having ability to work independently under given timelines

  • Published reports/papers as author/co-author/contributor

  • Vital that the candidate is self-motivated, conscientious and with an attitude to take ownership of the program.

  • Strong research and analytical skills – ability to quickly absorb wide-ranging material, analyze information and produce coherent conclusions

  • Excellent inter-personal, networking and communication skills

  • Strong writing skills.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelors or a Masters degree in Environmental policy/Science/ Law/Economics

  • Minimum of around 3-5 years of total work experience in climate change issues particularly in adaptation and loss and damage.
