CSE is looking for a Programme Officer to work in its Energy and Resource Efficiency Group.
Job Profile
The candidate will work on a research and advocacy programme to promote stronger environmental regulations and get them implemented for the thermal power sector in India and certain large economies such as Indonesia and South Africa:
The candidate would be responsible for the final research reports for the assigned project. He/ she would assist in the advocacy campaign that would include writing in the media building partnerships with various stakeholders and working with regulators and the industry.
The programme officer will write research reports about appropriate pollution control and resource efficiency technologies for the thermal power sector. The research will require primary survey of the industry and regulators, literature review, and collaborating with industry experts.
He/she will lead an advocacy campaign to push implementation of the newly enacted standards through dissemination of research and skill-building of environment regulators and plant managers. Public engagement including organising seminars, writing in media, and interacting with industry officials and policy makers would be critical to advocacy efforts.
The candidate would need to work at the field-level to strengthen the regulatory infrastructure of state authorities to ensure investment in pollution control by the industry and monitoring and enforcement by the regulators.
The candidate may also be required to assist in the research and advocacy of environmental issues confronting major economies. The international project may involve foreign travel and working with overseas partners to push for environmental friendly policies in several emerging markets.
The candidate will be required to help grow CSE’s presence in the broader energy sector by researching on electricity issues such as access and affordability, energy mix and technology, and grid stability and distribution viability.
He/ she may also work on the resource efficiency project incorporating ideas of circular economy, reuse and recycling. The project aims to develop a plan to put India’s growing resource use onto a sustainable path.
Necessary Skills:
Strong research ability – ability to absorb wide-ranging material and organise ideas; good writing skills and some experience of technical/ policy writing
Vital that the candidate takes ownership of assignments and is self-motivated
Strong analytical skills - candidates should have a facility with numbers and aptitude to analyse data
Diligent and disciplined work ethic
Good verbal communication skills
Good inter personal skills
Qualification:
Bachelors’ or a Masters’ degree in engineering or environment science
Around 5 years of work experience in thermal power sector, heavy industries or pollution control, trial sector policy.
Experience in energy and environment policy and resource efficiency would be a plus.
