has been rated the top green school based on the self-assessment done
through the Green Schools Manual.

Stress on
resources like energy and water is less
Although it does
not have a rainwater harvesting system, the school harvests water
spilling from taps
In this way, it
reuses around 60 per cent of the wastewater it generates
Data on the number
of staff/students walking or bicycling to school is maintained
Sholai School, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, has been rated second. The school
is located on a hillside and has just 51 students
Sholai School is an environment lover’s haven
because:
It derives most of
its energy from micro-hydel, solar and biogas sources
Precise
information about energy consumption on campus has been collated
Most of the waste
produced is reused within the campus

Evergreen Public School, Vasundhara Enclave, New Delhi, stands third in
the top Green Schools list.
The school has been implementing
environment-friendly practices over the years:
It is one of the
few schools in Delhi to have implemented proper rainwater
harvesting, including rooftop, paved and unpaved
Water that spills
from certain locations is directed to recharge pits
An audit of flora
and fauna on campus was done: the total number of trees were counted
and numbered
Once, students
used a spring balance to weigh the various kinds of waste produced
by the school

Best Students’ Audit Team Award
Pinnacle School, Panchsheel Enclave, New Delhi, has bagged the
‘Best Students’ Audit Team Award’.
Students did all
calculations on the data and also coordinated with the
administrative staff
They stayed back
after school hours and did a waste audit with the help of a spring
balance
Best Teachers’ Team Award
Evergreen Public School, Vasundhara Enclave, New Delhi, can celebrate
twice over. Besides, standing third, it has also won the ‘Best Teachers’
Team Award’.
A group of five
teachers handled each chapter of the programme: water, air, land,
energy and waste
Each person was
professional and coordinated with the others
The teachers
designed special data sheets for the students
The team came up
with the idea of numbering and counting trees
