GREEN SCHOOLS AWARD

AwardsThe Green Schools Award were given away at a fun-filled ceremony at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on December 17, 2007.

About 344 schools from across the nation participated, out of which 20 schools were short-listed as the top green schools of the country. Professor Krishna Kumar, Director, National Council for Education, Research and Training (NCERT) presented the awards to the top 20 Green Schools.

Government Secondary School, Boormajra, Ropar, Punjab got the top prize just like 2006 as it improved its performance by adopting rainwater harvesting. Another government school from Daramdin in Sikkim got the second position. The third position was bagged by Apeejay School, Pitampura, New Delhi.

The students team from Apeejay, Pitampura also bagged the best students’ audit team Award. The teachers team from Vishwabharati School, Noida got the best teachers team Award.

The award ceremony followed the Gobar Times Festival (Photos/pic. Gallery), which saw schools participate in a host of events which included an on-the-spot painting competition, street plays and a film festival. Some of the best schools had also put up stalls to showcase their work on the Green Schools programme..
