On overall work-wise progress, NREGA has registered around 14 percent growth in the last two months. As expected, the rise in the number of completed works has been the maximum at 21.75 percent growth.

Table-2: Preferred works: Progress trend during August-October 2006
During August-October number of works in water conservation has registered the least growth in comparisons to other preferred works under the NREGA.

Though there has been increase in the number of works under water conservation, in comparison to total number of works under the NREGA it has come down by around 3.5 percent. In all other components, there is marked increase. But the trend of flood control and drought proofing remain the least two preferred works.




Table –3 State Trends
As in August, the trend of few states accounting for large chunk of water conservation works continues. Ten states contribute 96.17 percent of total water conservation works. Interestingly, MP, AP and Jharkhand alone account for 73.77 percent of total works in water conservation.
