Lac farming to come under NREGA purview
Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh has said that lac farming will be given a boost in Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh with the support of the Shellac and Forest Products Export Promotion Council (SHEFEXIL) under the Union ministry of commerce. He said SHEFEXIL will provide training and market support to lac producers who are predominantly tribal women. Ramesh added that funds needed for lac promotion activities are being tapped from the Swarna Jayanti Swarozgar Yojana and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
