Analysis of the EIA Report of the proposed Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) at Dahej Industrial Estate, Bharuch, Gujarat by Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure Ltd. (BEIL)

 Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure Ltd. (BEIL) has proposed to set up a Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) at Dahej Industrial Estate, along with two Multiple Effect Evaporation (MEE) plants and various utilities and infrastructure facilities.The project involves a Secured Landfill Facility (SLF) for Hazardous waste with a capacity of 1.4 MTPA (14 Lacs MT). Capacity of the MEE plants is 600 KL/day (Phase wise: 3 X 200 KL/day)2. The duration of operation of the TSDF site is 15 years.

 Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) carried out a technical analysis of the Executive Summary of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the proposed Grain/Molasses based distillery and a Co-generation Power Plant (2.2 MW) by Malwa Brew & Alcohols (India) Pvt. Ltd. This was based on a request from Prakash Patidar of Khargone, Madhya Pradesh. EIA Analysis Attached

Green rating problems

GRIHA, a rating system for green buildings developed by The Energy and Resources Institute ( TERI ), has been formalized as the first national rating system.

Work Overview

Community Support Programme is a programme with a vision to help various communities in the country who request CSE for technical support. It aims at those communities which do not have access to such technical support and have issues pertaining to environment in their vicinity. The thought behind this programme is that community can best explain its problem, as they are the most vulnerable group of people who bear the repercussions of the harm done to environment. They also do not have any support, due to lack of funds and knowledge, in order to save themselves from the catastrophe caused by mankind. In such cases if any community or a representative approaches CSE, we provide them with proper technical guidance in order to curb further harm to the community that is being done by human activity and environmental consequences of the same.

About Industry & Environment Unit

CSE's Industry and Environment Unit addresses an array of environmental issues related to Indian industries. It conducts research and advocacy on the impact of industrial pollution and provides training in related issues. The various arms of the Industry and Environment unit are: 1. Green Rating Project - The Green Rating Project (GRP) is an effort to rate industrial units within a specific sector on the basis of their environment friendliness. The project aims at encouraging companies to adopt better environment management policies. Unfortunately, in many developing countries like India, policies and institutions for controlling pollution and degradation of the resource base are weak and still in a nascent stage. 

Work Overview

The association of CSE with Bangladesh was started in 2008, when Bangladesh Environmental Institutional Strengthening Project (BEISP) requested us to conduct a training programme on EIA for the officials of Ministry of Environment and Forests. The sectors covered in the EIA training programme were coal mining, pharmaceutical, pul and paper and coal based thermal power plants.
