Public Dialogue: Combating air pollution in Kolkata
CSE organised a public dialogue (February 2009) in the city. Titled ‘Clearing the air: An agenda for action’, it brought together policy makers, experts and civil society groups, to discuss how a road-map for pollution control in the city, which has recently seen strong action from the judiciary to contain its rising air pollution.
Centre asks cities to benchmark their urban transportation services
The Union ministry of urban development has evolved a system for evaluating urban transportation services in cities across India.

Agartala is the capital city of one of our eastern most states of India, Tripura. Even with much smaller vehicle numbers the city is witnessing increase in pollution levels and severe congestion. The city is built for walking and cycling and buses. The city must retain its strength and not let cars take over the space. |

The seven year scheme had a whopping Rs 100,000 crore in its kitty to develop infrastructure and services – water supply, sanitation and sewerage, urban transport and integrated slum development – in 63 cities.

Air quality data generated by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for 2007 under the National Air Quality Monitoring Programme (NAMP) presents deadly facts about air pollution levels in Indian cities.
