City Action describes our collaborative actions with various partner cities. These rapidly growing cities sometimes have unique concerns.... In depth Analysis and South Asian Outreach programs aim to ring the alarm and instigate change in these centers of urban development.

Public Dialogue: Combating air pollution in Kolkata

CSE organised a public dialogue (February 2009) in the city. Titled ‘Clearing the air: An agenda for action’, it brought together policy makers, experts and civil society groups, to discuss how a road-map for pollution control in the city, which has recently seen strong action from the judiciary to contain its rising air pollution.

Tenth CSE Media Fellowships: JNNURM and Indian cities: misguided mission or reform blueprint? 11 Fellows selected

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) was launched in December 2005 to improve the quality of life in Indian cities. The seven year scheme had a whopping Rs 100,000 crore in its kitty to develop infrastructure and services – water supply, sanitation and sewerage, urban transport and integrated slum development – in 63 cities. The idea was to provide incentives to state governments and city administrations to carry out urban reforms.
