For a green house

After Pune, which is reaping the benefits of an eco-housing scheme launched last year, Mumbai now can do the same. The decks stand cleared for the launch of an eco-housing scheme in Mumbai, which offers financial incentives to both builders and consumers.

Prepared by Pune-based Science and Technology Park and recently adopted by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (mcgm), the scheme will certify green residential complexes, both new constructions and retrofitted buildings.

CSE Building Water Audit

In 2010 CSE undertook a water audit for its office building, essentially aimed at further improving water efficiency and conserving every drop of water wherever possible.

Lighting

Do you know lighting accounts for almost 20 per cent of the monthly electricity bill in many households? Energy saving can make a considerable difference to our household budget.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs?

What is LED?
LEDs have been around for over 50 years in colours red, orange, yellow, blue, green and then sheer white.

Compact fluorescent lamp (CFL)?

What is it and why it helps?
A Compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) is an energy efficient alternative and are much more efficient than incandescent bulbs. A CFL uses only one-fifth as much electricity as an incandescent lamp to provide the same level of illumination. A 15 W and 20 W CFL can replace a 60 W and 100 W incandescent bulbs respectively.
