Course on: Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planing

Date: September 25-29, 2017 Venue: CSE, 41, Tughlakabad Institutional Area, New Delhi-110062 Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is organizing a five day training programme on “Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning” (WSUDP).  The five day training includes first four days of classroom training, followed by a field exposure visit.

National Field Exposure Visit on Septage and Faecal Sludge Management

Date: July 31 - August 04, 2017 Venue: Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi CSE is assisting the National Mission Clean Ganga - Namami Gange programme and Swacch Bharat Mission (SBM) in target cities of Ganga basin states (namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal) in planning for city-wide sanitation including non-sewered areas and effective septage /faecal sludge management to further strengthen Ganga river pollution abatement.

WATER RESOURCES OF INDIA – AN OVERVIEW The average annual rainfall in the country has been estimated to be about 1170 millimeters (mm). The total of average annual rainfall, snowfall and glacier melt in terms of volume works out to about 4000 billion cubic meters (bcm). However, due to losses through evaporation and evapo-transpiration, the water availability has been assessed to be about 1869 bcm. Read more

National Policy on Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM)

On 2nd October 2014, the Government of India launched the Swachh Bharat Mission with the aim to achieve a Clean and Open Defecation Free India by 2019. Under this mission, the government plans to construct 1.52 million toilets in rural areas along the Ganga and 1.45 million toilets (private and public toilets) in cities that dot the river banks. This means that by 2019, over 30 million tanks or pits would have been constructed along the Ganga. 

Experience Sharing Visit for Faecal Sludge Management and Wastewater Treatment Technologies at PRG, UKZN

Date: 24th January, 2017 to 6th February, 2017 Mr. Bhitush Luthra and Chhavi Sharda from CSE Water Team visited UKZN’s Faecal Waste testing laboratory that is situated in Durban, South Africa in January-February 2017. The visit was organized as part of understanding with UKZN for knowledge and staff exchange. Aim: To explore areas of collaborations that will help in strengthening the capacities with respect to on-going projects of the water programme and pollution monitoring laboratory
