Workshop on Cumulative Impact Assessment Need for better assessment tool: Time to deliberate

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a leading environmental research and advocacy organization in India. For more than a decade, we are working in the field of impact assessment and capacity building of regulators, industries, consultants and other stakeholders.  Our experience says that our Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) framework has not been effective and failed to meet its objective of sustainable development. We understand that Cumulative Impact Assessment (CIA) is the right option which shall be adopted in environmental clearance process in India.

Developed countries like US and Canada have already adopted CIA and are getting benefits out of it. Some attempts like- work on Carrying Capacity, Zoning Atlas and Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI) etc. have been made in India also, but an integrated CIA framework is still not in place.

We strongly believe that it is time to rethink about our existing environmental clearance framework and the need of improvement in it. In this direction, CSE is organizing a workshop for researchers, consultants, industry professionals and other experts. This workshop is intended to initiate the discussion and policy level push for implementation of CIA and Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA) in India.

Workshop on "Cumulative Impact Assessment Need for better assessment tool: Time to deliberate" will be held on 29th and 30th June, 2016, at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003. The participation is on invitation basis only.
