A Short Course on Information Management and Web-based Outreach

Course Date: November 26-29, 2013

 

Managing information, in the internet era with explosive information availability demands special skills and calls for investments in strengthening the information infrastructure and skills of an organisation.

This specially designed course will teach participants on how to manage all aspects and types of information, at an institutional level and develop a virtual resource centre using open source tools and technologies.

Few fellowships available for Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Maldives.


Conducted by:
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) with more than 30 years of experience in managing thousands books, articles, news clippings, video films, photographs and contact addresses. CSE is also the developer and manager of virtual information gateway “India Environment Portal (http://www.indiaenvironmentportal.org.in)”

Course content:

  • Planning and managing resource centres in the digital age

  • Sourcing information (print/electronic, internet for research)

  • Organising Information:  Classification & Indexing (including digitized resources)

  •  A primer on managing  audio-visual resources (films, photos, Cds, etc.)

  •  Digitisation and e-documentation of news clippings, articles, reports and documents

  •  Building contact databases

  •  Knowledge creation and dissemination (Information Services/Products)

  •  E-mail for outreach (mass mail using open source s/w)

  •  Online presence : reaching out through the web

  •  Potential of social media and web 2.0 for information dissemination and communication


Course Fee

Rs 6,500 per participant 
Accomodation and related costs are not included in the cost. However, CSE can help you find a place to stay.
