BUS BOUTS 2018

Exposure tours to study best practices and innovations in city bus operations in India

As part of the Clean Air and Sustainable Mobility Programme, CSE has been working on the agenda of public transport reforms in multiple cities in India. Built into this agenda is the element of capacity building of key officials in agencies concerned with the provision of public transport in Indian cities. As part of the capacity building mandate, CSE conducts exposure visits of officials to best practices and innovations in sustainable urban mobility across the country.

In this context, CSE is taking a delegation of officials from various State Transport Undertakings across the country to Mumbai and Bengaluru to see first-hand some of the path breaking work happening in city bus operations and management in these two cities. This programme is being conducted through the cooperation of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and BEST Undertaking. In Mumbai, the focus would be on use of technology in automated fleet and crew scheduling processes and creation of ERP at Depot levels, along with other initiatives that BEST is taking to improve performance efficiency and enhance user satisfaction, such as the introduction of the Electric Buses. In Bengaluru, the delegation will get to see the exemplary work being undertaken in the realm of fleet tracking, bus body building and maintenance practices of BMTC along with passenger information system of Mysuru City Bus Services.
