Cleaner brick production

Centre for Science and Environment is organising a one- day workshop on Cleaner brick production in association with Andhra Pradesh Pollution Board, on 29th November at Tirupati.

The workshop will have two sessions: first will deal with Red bricks - Clamps and the Environmental challenges and the second session will discuss on Fly ash brick production - Improving the environmental management and the quality of the fly ash bricks.

Centre for Science and Environment is working with the brick kiln entrepreneurs to encourage them to convert to cleaner technologies. According to the CPCB direction dated June 27th, 2017, all the brick kilns shall be converted into induced draft technology (Rectangular shaped with zigzag brick setting). However, the implementation has not yet started in Andhra Pradesh. This workshop thus aims to work with the brick kiln entrepreneurs and regulators to deliberate the different challenges associated with the conversion.

In the case of fly ash bricks, the production and demand have increased significantly, however, there are still some challenges associated like the need of better Environmental management at the site and the need of improved brick quality. This workshop will also address these issues.
