10 February - 16 February 2021
Dear readers,

The impacts of climate change are being felt around the world with higher temperature trends being observed in northern Africa and the USA, and heavy rainfall in Southern India.

Indirect impacts are visible in events such as the Chamoli glacier burst and crop losses in India, and heat-related deaths in the UK.

For India in particular, fossil fuel combustion is the primary driver of climate change and pollution, leading to premature deaths, and poor air quality especially in cities with formerly clean air such as Mumbai. Despite this, India’s energy use, the source of most of which is coal, is projected to increase.

In Africa, nitrogen dioxide pollution has reduced across the North, while South Africa grapples with a lack of data on climate finance while navigating its climate policy goals.

The USA has John Kerry at the helm of its climate policy, and this inspires confidence in many.
