Dear readers,

As Cyclone Tauktae barrels down the west coast of India, it is a stark reminder of the impacts of climate change due to a warming sea. It is also the strongest pre-monsoon cyclone in the Arabian Sea since 2010 and may also be the strongest on India's west coast. Additionally, climate change could be behind the Uttarakhand cloudbursts.

In other impacts of climate change in different regions across the globe, in addition to its impact on weather patterns, climate change has placed food production in Africa's Sudano-Sahelian Zone at risk.

According to a recent study, China was found to be the world’s largest GHG emitter however, China’s target of carbon neutrality is misleading. Non-profits criticise Brazil’s candidacy to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development while dismantling socio-environmental policies.

UNDP reports, transition in energy use is more important in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and new low-carbon development, investment, governance models are needed to achieve SDGs.

In India, the renewable energy sector may get a boost following proposed reforms worth 40 billion dollars in discoms while discussions on making distributed renewable energy projects work for India continue.
