June 16 – June 22, 2021
Dear readers,

Climate change, according to experts, has caused monsoon variation in India and throughout the world, with surplus and heavy rainfall in Bihar, deficits in northeastern states, lengthy periods of flood and drought in Southern Ethiopia, and post-summer rainfall in eight countries. Odisha plans to increase mangroves along the coast to curb cyclones. Elsewhere, scientists believe we have already walked on a minefield as Arctic sea ice retreated at an alarmingly fast rate in spring 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have negatively impacted the economy, but it has not deterred India from increasing its renewable energy capacity, as well as Africa from recently launching the Renewable Africa project.

According to a study, switching to energy-efficient appliances can lower energy demands.

The UN has recently launched the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, while UNESCO suggests the inclusion of the Great Barrier Reef in the danger list. With rising anthropogenic emissions, it has been suggested how changing investors' strategies can curb fossil fuel emissions.

To make sense of these climate trends, buy CSE’s recently launched book Climate Change: Science and Politics from the CSE store, and the new State of India’s Environment 2021: In Figures from the DTE website.
