Dear readers,

India witnessed a concurrent increase in meteorological droughts and heatwaves in various parts of the country over the last 60 years.

Rains in Uttar Pradesh have ruined crops such as paddy, sugarcane, mustard, potatoes and other vegetables.

India received 52% excess rainfall than normal over one weekend.

Inclement weather is also affecting farmers’ mental health and social standing in many regions. In fact, climate change has escalated suicide rates among Marathwada farmers.

Climate tipping points could lock in unstoppable changes to the planet, in fact, mall patches of the Amazon and northern forests might tip and transition to a savannah-like state first, bypassing a more catastrophic dieback across the whole forest.

Every degree of warming counts – see Down to Earth’s series of interactive infographics here, that explore the 21st Century's toughest development challenge: the planet's changing climate.
