Ghoramara gets solar ready

Hitherto, it was an island that made news for all the wrong reasons. Studies found that it was shrinking due to climate change. Now, with solar making an inroad here, things may change for the better, not only for Ghoramara island, but also for the inhabitants.

An initiative by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, it is being implemented by IIT Kharagpur and Dr S P Gon Chaudhuri, a veteran in the renewable energy sector, is chairman of its implementation committee.

IIT Madras, Deakin University tie-up for Australia-India Centre for Energy
The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and the Deakin University, Australia, have established an Australia-India Centre for Energy (AICE). The aim is to enable collaborations between Australia and India in the energy sector through transformative research, technology development and deployment. The Australian Trade and Investment Commission will serve as a catalyst to foster partnerships with industry from both countries in the energy sector and will specifically drive closer cooperation across areas of strategic importance, including critical minerals, clean technology, education and innovation.
Offshore wind: MNRE extends date for sea bed leasing
The MNRE, in an official circular, announced that it had extended the date towards submission of comments on the Draft Tender Document for sea bed leasing for offshore wind energy Projects.
Centre of Excellence for Green Port aims to transform ports
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, announced India’s first National Centre of Excellence for Green Port & Shipping (NCoEGPS) at the “INMARCO 2022” event in Mumbai on November 19, 2022.
MNRE invites proposals under RE Internship programme
The MNREhas invited applications/proposals from students pursuing undergraduate/ graduate/post-graduate degrees or research scholars enrolled in recognized institutes/universities within India or abroad, and intend to avail central financial aid under the ‘National Renewable Energy Internship Programme’ of the Ministry's Human Resource Development scheme. Interested candidates/students can submit applications by December 20, 2022 on https://hrd.mnre.gov.in.
DEA, MNRE, launch conceptual plan for 15 Indian offshore wind parks
The Danish Energy Agency and the MNRE have published a conceptual plan with a pipeline identifying 15 locations for offshore wind in India. The conceptual plan provides substantial inputs to the current stakeholder dialogue on the recently released draft tender document from the Government of India.
NTPC invites bids for battery energy storage system for Khavda RE park
NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has invited bids to supply battery energy storage systems (BESS) for solar power projects at the Khavda RE Power park in Gujarat's Kutch region. All bids have to be accompanied by bid security for an amount of Rs 5 lakh only. The last date to submit the bids is January 9, 2023.

Mobilizing Investment for Clean Energy in India
India has charted ambitious goals for its energy transition. These include achieving 50% cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources. Additionally, it has committed to reducing the emissions intensity of its GDP by 45% (compared to 2005 levels), also by 2030.
CEA's Power Survey forecasts growth of India's solar rooftop sector
The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) released its 20th Electric Power Survey (EPS) of India. In the Report, Chapter 7 presents an assessment of the power demand in India, inclusive of the demand met from Captive Power Plants (CPPs) and solar rooftops. According to the report, the numbers will see a rise from 23,3961MW in 2021-22 in to 46,3776MW in 2031-32.
India adds 10 GW of solar in 2022
During the first nine months of 2022, 10 GW of solar was installed in India. Solar capacity additions were 35% higher than the 7.4 GW installed in 9M 2021, according to the Q3 2022 India Solar Market Update by Mercom India Research that was released on November 16, 2022. Utility-scale installations during the period totalled 9 GW, a 45% increase compared to 6.1 GW in 9M 2021.

UP’s Solar Policy
The Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy 2022 aims to achieve a target of 16,000MW solar power projects up to 2026-27 in the state. Some of the other initiatives that have been proposed include---development of solar parks, promotion of small decentralized grid connected solar power, promotion of rooftop solar projects through net metering and gross metering mechanism or in any other manner as per the provisions of Electricity Act, 2003 and relevant Regulations/Orders issued by UPERC.
