Senior Research Associate for Energy Programme (Global)

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is one of India’s leading public interest research institutions, known for its rigorous scientific policy research and advocacy on environmental issues. CSE is looking for a Senior Research Associate to join its Global Energy team. 

Since the past five years, CSE has been working in various Asian and African countries to promote sustainable energy practices, under its South-South Cooperation initiative. CSE is formulating and advocating policies in these countries for renewable energy development and for controlling emissions from coal-based power plants. 

Job Profile
The candidate will undertake research and advocacy to push energy sector de-carbonisation – reduce emissions from coal-based power plants, and enhance renewable energy targets and access to clean energy. The candidate will report to Head Global who will give overall research direction to the team. 

The SRA will carry out research through both primary data collection and secondary literature studies to produce research output including reports, policy briefs and articles. He/she will disseminate research output and assist in advocacy efforts through active engagement with policy makers, industry players, think tanks and civil society. The candidate will identify and communicate extensively with these stakeholders to build network, develop partnerships, and organise meetings/conferences. 

He/she will need to follow regulatory and technical developments in relevant countries including India, critique policy changes for internal discussions and give feedback to relevant stakeholders including the government. 

The candidate will also assist CSE’s efforts to promote renewable energy in India. 

Necessary Skills:

  • Good understanding of the energy sector, especially policy and regulatory aspects.
  • Strong research and analytical skills – ability to quickly absorb and analyse wide-ranging material and produce well-structured reports.
  • Precise, lucid writing; confident, articulate speaker.
  • Vital that the candidate can deliver under pressure, meet tight deadlines and is self-motivated.
  • Good inter personal skills; needs to be good at networking. 

Qualification:

  • Total work experience of 3-5 years. Prior research and writing experience is essential.
  • Candidates with both technical and social sciences qualification can apply. A mix of technical and policy background will be preferred. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
