India set to be major contributor to world's "Circular Economy", says Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh
While speaking as chief guest at the Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR IIP) - MSME Meet & PAN CSIR – collaborations as part of “One Week -One Lab” program here, Dr Jitendra Singh said that India has huge unexplored amount of waste which is available to be converted to wealth that was not realised earlier as neither there was technology available, nor it was brought up as part of our social culture. But with increasing pace of technological development and, more and more social awareness happening, this will become a rich source of economy which will be exclusive to India.

Thermal power plants in Delhi-NCR not following government order to use biomass to generate electricity
The Ministry of Power (MoP) had mandated the use of biomass residue for co-firing in coal-based thermal power plantsIn October 2021. CSE conducted a survey to understand the status of biomass co-firing, and what limits its uptake in the 11 coal-based power plants in Delhi NCR. Records show that not even one per cent of the coal used has been replaced with biomass in any of the coal thermal power plants in Delhi NCR.

Wind and solar reach a record 12% of global electricity in 2022, says recent report by Ember
Wind and solar reached a record 12% of global electricity in 2022, up from 10% in 2021, according to a major report launched today by energy think tank Ember. The report forecasts that from 2023 wind and solar will push the world into a new era of falling fossil generation, and therefore falling power sector emissions.

Energy Swaraj Foundation, Atal Innovation Mission to display climate clock in Delhi
Think tank Energy Swaraj Foundation along with the government's Atal Innovation Mission will soon spread awareness about climate change with the help of a clock. NTPC and Chempolis to conduct a feasibility study for a bamboo-based bio-refinery
National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC), the largest power-generating utility in India, and Chempolis India, a Fortum group associate Co & a leading Finnish biorefining technology provider, have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding on 10.04.2023 to explore the feasibility of setting up a Bamboo Based Bio-Refinery in Bongaigaon/Assam. Through this MoU, Chempolis will work with NTPC to conduct the feasibility study for the project which shall utilize bamboo for the production of 2G Ethanol & other value-added products.

HPCL may soon launch ethanol cooking stoves
State-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL), in association with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, has developed an ethanol-fuel cooking stove, which could see a pilot launch soon.To address its dependence on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and save on its ever-rising fuel bill, India may soon see the launch of a cooking stove that uses bio-ethanol.

India looking to merge hydro power units to create single company: Power Minister
Thegovernment is considering selling state-owned NTPC Ltd.'s two hydro power firms to NHPC Ltd. to create a single hydro power company that would improve efficiency and cut costs, power minister R K Singh said. NTPC, the country's largest power producer, acquired the two hydro companies -- THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) and NEEPCO -- three years ago for about $1.34 billion under a consolidation plan by the Indian government.The combined entity after the merger of THDCIL and NEEPCO with NHPC would have 20 GW of hydro assets. NHPC, which is also stateowned, currently has 12 GW of hydro assets.

US tightens emissions norms for vehicle manufacturers. How the move can inspire India's EV transition
In a bid to make up for lost ground with vehicle electrification, the United States has proposed very stringent emissions goals. When implemented, the new rules proposed by the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) estimate that electric vehicles (EV) would account for 67 per cent of light-duty vehicle sales and 46 per cent of medium-duty vehicle sales by model-year 2032.
