Dear Readers,

This edition of the newsletter talks about recent developments in the renewable energy space in India and all over the world. India’s performance in the renewable energy sector in the last quarter of FY 2023-24 has not been up to the mark; In the current quarter, we see developments taking place in the solar, wind, hydrogen, and biomass sectors. This shows that we are committed to moving closer to the goals set for FY24.

A big development has also recently taken place in the solar sector. The previously underestimated rooftop solar sector is finding more importance as Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana was launched on the 22nd of January. With this, the Prime Minister of India aims to install rooftop solar in 1 crore households. This is a positive step in the direction of further uptake of solar in the country, and details of the policy are much awaited.

With India approaching Budget 2024-25, there is a lot of anticipation on the kind of investment that is going to go towards renewable energy. In the last Budget, the allocation to renewable energy was only ~1/4th of the budget allocation for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It is hoped that in this budget, renewable energy gets more importance. India needs a large amount of investment to reach its renewable energy goals, with around Rs. 4 trillion needed in transmission infrastructure to reach the targets set for the year 2027.

As has been the case over the years, renewable energy is expected to receive a big boost in the upcoming interim budget for the year, in order to keep pace with the growth and development in RE in previous years.

Below, you'll find additional news and analysis for your review. I trust you'll find these insights valuable.
