What is MGNREGA?

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (hereafter MGNREGA) aims at enhancing the livelihood security of people in rural India by guaranteeing 100 days of wage-employment in a financial year to a rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. The pilot project flagged off with 200 districts on 2 February 2006. It was later broadened to include all Indian districts from 1 April 2008
