Background

Nearly 61% of the global population (4.5 billion people) lack safely managed sanitation services (use of a toilet or latrine that leads to treatment or safe disposal of excreta). In a country like India only 40% of urban households are connected to sewerage network, and most of the STPs struggle to meet the discharge standards. Clearly the sewerage systems are failing to keep up with the excreta challenge. There is plethora of innovative technologies, a combination of which can be a good substitute to the conventional network-based solutions. MOUNT(Menu On Un-Networked Technologies) is an attempt to bring all these technologies at one place. It is an initiative to create a platform where all users feel enabled by reading about already implemented technologies. This initiative is developed under the project titled ‘Capacity Building of urban local bodies on water and waste in Ganga basin cities’ funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
