Programme Managers - Sanitation Planning & Civil Engineering for Water Programme

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), an established research and advocacy institute, is looking for Programme Managers for its Water Programme.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), is an established non-profit institution known for its rigorous and scientific policy research and advocacy on environmental issues. The centre is looking for suitable candidates to work for its Water Programme. The programme aims to establish policy principles, innovative technologies and implementation strategies for water and wastewater management – these efforts have been directed towards meeting the twin goals of laying foundation for water prudent society and adapting for climate resilience.

The programme has a project focusing on target cities / states in river Ganga basin programme support in preparation of city sanitation plans (CSP) for effective septage / faecal sludge management. This involves programme support and technical support in planning, designing and implementing pilot fecal sludge/septage and liquid waste treatment systems including local reuse that are sustainable and affordable.  Another important component of the programme is School of Water and Waste – a capacity building CSE – Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI) at Nimli, Rajasthan. The school part of AAETI a learning , teaching and innovation centre designed to find appropoiate and affordable solutions to some of the most pressing problems faced by the global south and capacity building hub with state of art teaching – learning offered as short training programmes for practitioners, trainers and other key stakeholders – from India and other countries.

This is mid level position reporting to Programme Director that entails high- quality applied research and capacity development activities for mainstreaming best management practices aimed at promoting sustainable water/waste and effective fecal sludge and septage management in both rural and urban context.  

We need preferably Civil Engineers or Planners/ Architects or Post graduate in Environment/ Wastewater Engineering or related field with at least 5-7 years work experience. Candidates with less experience will be considered for Programme Officer position.

 Candidate with experience in providing technical support for implementation of pilot projects related to water, sanitation and fecal sludge management will be preferred.  

Candidate should have experience of to applied research and on-site technical field support, advocacy and training. He/she should also have a good working understanding of other organizations groups, and individuals in the water and sanitation sector including government policies / reforms in both urban and rural water sector.

The candidate should be able to work in tight-knit and dynamic team that works on wide range of issues related to urban and rural water management. He/she should have strong networking and liaising skills, willingness to travel and fluency in both written and spoken English/Hindi.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
