Research Associate for Sustainable Buildings and Habitat Programme

CSE is looking for a Research Associate to work towards sustainability in built sector with a focus on energy and resource efficiency in buildings. The candidates with a clear understanding of building design, material and construction techniques, building operations and performance monitoring and benchmarking, energy/ environmental audits, green ratings, etc. are anticipated.

Selected candidate will be a part of Sustainable Buildings and Habitat Programme and work towards cutting the resource footprint of the buildings to meet the broader Programme objectives of reducing overall emissions from built sector and improving the quality of our habitat.This includes improving performance of the existing built stock, ensuring the new construction has a low resource footprint, maximizing adaptive comfort in building by intervening in design, optimizing operational and equipment efficiency and all this by pushing for implementation of sustainable development practices at state and local levels.

He/she will conduct high quality research and dissemination via writing, presenting, networking and policy advocacy under Programme objectives. This will also include capacity building of regulators and building professionals. 

Work Profile

  • Data interpretation from accredited organizations
  • Conducting building/campus level energy/environment benchmarking including data collection and assessment
  • Evaluating data and provide recommendations on energy/environmental benchmarking findings
  • Synthesizing analysis in ongoing reports to prepare advocacy agenda
  • Designing and producing specific training modules, field exercises, etc.
  • Contributing to team’s formal written papers and reports
  • Capacity building of varied professional groups pertaining to energy/environmental benchmarking and its field hands-on.
  • Handholding and liasoning with individuals and organizations with respect to the expectations and best practices related to the sustainability practices
  • Promote and maintain a high level of ethical professional conduct in all work related situations 

Competency

Essential

  • Sound understanding of the issues in environmental sustainability and/or energy efficiency in the built sector, including sustainable development practices, environmental impact assessment, building codes, energy conservation building codes, etc.
  • Familiarity with green building materials, passive design and sustainable construction techniques.
  • Basic knowledge on electro-mechanical systems, such as HVAC, and lighting control systems. 

Desirable 

  • Conducting building energy/environmental performance audits.
  • Familiarity with software programs in auditingand building energy modeling.
  • Experience in measuring, recording and synthesizing building’s energy/environmental performance data using basic hand-held temperature, lighting and other monitoring equipment. 

Qualification and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Environmental Planning/Economics/Engineering/Architecture background will be preferred
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in non-profit/academia/consulting sector in the field of environmental sustainability and/or energy efficiency.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
