Saffola Honey’s latest ad assures consumers of purity with written proof on packaging

The latest TVC of Saffola Honey, featuring actress Priya Mani, highlights its commitment to delivering high-quality, zero-adulteration products to its consumers and that too with written proof. Launched in June 2020 Marico's Saffola Honey scored over its competitors last year when it was found to be one among three brands that cleared the purity test. The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on 2 December, 2020 said major honey brands such as Dabur, Patanjali, and Emami (Zandu Pure Honey) had failed a key purity test conducted by a German laboratory. Out of the 13 honey brands’ samples, the CSE had sent for testing, Saffola Honey was the only big brand among the three which cleared the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) test that is administered across the world to test honey for its purity. While the test is not a norm in India, it is mandatory for honey meant for export. This ad once again reminds consumers that they are the ‘purest’ honey available in the market. And what’s more- it’s packaging clearly states its purity standards. The TVC shows a lady seeking written proof for everything with ‘Kaha likha hai?’ This panders to the popular mindset that a claim needs to be written down to be sure of its credibility. She asks the same question to the salesman at a supermarket when he claims that Saffola Honey is 100% pure. He then asks her to refer to the pack which mentions it passes all government standards and is NMR tested for sugar adulteration. Sanjay Mishra, Chief Operating Officer, India Sales and Chief Executive Officer, New Business, Marico Limited commented, “While honey is a popular natural sweetener and is consumed by many in India, the adulteration in honey through added sugar is a widespread problem. At Saffola, we are committed to delivering only the best-in-class products sourced, processed, and delivered to the consumer by following the highest levels of quality controls and standardisation. Saffola Honey is tested through one of the most advanced Nuclear Magnetic Resonance testing techniques in specialised laboratories of Germany to ensure Saffola honey is free from any added or exogenous sugar. We are also delighted to collaborate with Priya Mani for our TVC, which aims to generate a conversation around the need for Indian consumers to demand the certification of purity and quality of the products they consume.” Priya Mani said, “Saffola has always been a trusted partner for India’s quest towards a healthy lifestyle. With Saffola Honey, Marico Limited has taken the superior quality they are known for a step further, by creating a product that does not compromise on anything and is accredited with the famed NMR certification. I am honoured to be associated with Saffola Honey and am excited to bring lasting change into people’s lives with this campaign.”

Delhi air pollution returns to severe, 50 per cent caused by vehicles

The other major sources included household sources, industry, construction, waste burning and road dust. NEW DELHI: As Delhi’s air quality plunged into the severe category again, a report released by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on Thursday revealed that vehicular emissions are the biggest contributor to pollution in the city, accounting for over 50% of the particulate matter during the early phase of winter (October 24-November 8). The other major sources included household sources, industry, construction, waste burning and road dust. The report was based on an analysis of real-time source contribution data on the trend every alternate hour during the study period, generated by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology-Pune. Other sources included DG sets, crematoria, restaurants, airport etc.. Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director, research and advocacy, CSE, said that after the closure of all coal-based power plants, expansion of natural gas usage in industry and controls on dirty fuels, vehicles had emerged as the biggest real-time contributor among the local sources of winter pollution this year. “Action on transportation has to gather strong momentum. At the same time, action on waste management, clean energy access in households and dust control must be speeded up,” she said. The report highlighted that during November 2-6 (Diwali week), the contribution of NCR emissions dominated in the initial phase going up to 70-80%, but its share declined during the smog episode post-Diwali (November 5-8) and the local sources’ share increased. Delhi’s air turned ‘severe’ post-Diwali due to firecrackers and stubble burning along with calm winds. “The contribution of biomass burning from other states remained low in the initial pre-Diwali phase but peaked post-Diwali,” the report said. Also, it was noticed that the contribution of Delhi’s own sources go up during evening hours and lasts until early morning (7:30 pm-9:30 am). An additional analysis of the trends in traffic speed during October 27-November 6 on 15 key stretches showed that vehicular congestion is back to pre-pandemic times and correlates with the pollution peaks. Roychowdhury said that in the absence of measures like integrated public transport, walking/cycling infrastructure and parking area management, Delhi, where vehicle numbers are “explosive at 1.32 crore”, is unable to enforce emergency action to control traffic volumes during smog episodes.

Vehicles Accounted for Over 50% Pollution in Delhi in Early Winters: Study

October 24 to November 8, according to an analysis by the green think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). The CSE study released here on Thursday is based on real-time data on source contribution from the Decision Support System for Air Quality Management of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune. "The analysis clearly shows vehicles' contribution is half or more. This is followed by household pollution (12.5-13.5 per cent), industry (9.9-13.7 per cent), construction (6.7-7.9 per cent), waste burning and road dust (each varied between 4.6-4.9 per cent and 3.6-4.1 per cent, respectively)," it said. The Decision Support System of IITM is part of the Air Quality Early Warning System and provides information on the potential emission sources in Delhi. It also tracks data from sources outside Delhi — 19 districts in the national capital region — as well as biomass burning in the neighbouring states. During November 2-6, the contribution of pollution sources in NCR dominated the initial phase — going up to 70-80 per cent. Its share declined during the smog episode post-Diwali when the relative contribution of Delhi's own sources increased. Similarly, the contribution of biomass burning from other states remained low in the initial pre-Diwali phase but peaked post-Diwali.

Delhi Pollution:

Vehicles accounted for over 50% pollution in Delhi in early winters, says think tank report

Vehicles accounted for more than 50 per cent of Delhi's pollution during the early phase of this year's winter, from October 24 to November 8, according to an analysis by the green think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). The CSE study released here on Thursday is based on real-time data on source contribution from the Decision Support System for Air Quality Management of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune. "The analysis clearly shows vehic... Delhi news updates: Delhi records zero Covid-19 death, 40 new cases; positivity rate 0.08%

Delhi AQI Latest Updates, Delhi Weather Today: Meanwhile, a thick layer of smog partially blotted out the sun on Chhath Puja as the air quality in Delhi-NCR slipped back into the severe zone with unfavourable meteorological conditions aiding accumulation of pollutants. Delhi News: Delhi on Thursday recorded zero death due to Covid-19 and 40 fresh cases with a positivity rate of 0.08 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department. The number of cumulative cases rose to 14,40,270. Over 14.14 lakh patients have recovered from the infection. The death toll due to the coronavirus infection in Delhi stood at 25,091. The national capital has not reported any death due to Covid-19 so far this month. It reported four Covid-19 deaths in October and five in September. A thick layer of smog partially blotted out the sun on Chhath Puja and smudged landmarks from view as the air quality in Delhi-NCR slipped back into the severe zone with unfavourable meteorological conditions aiding accumulation of pollutants. Green think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said the ongoing smog episode is a public health emergency. Delhi recorded the 24-hourly air quality index (AQI) at 411. Most of the 39 air quality monitoring stations in the national capital recorded air pollution levels in the severe category. Meanwhile, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia has urged the Centre to postpone the National Achievement Survey (NAS) scheduled to be held on Friday. The NAS is a countrywide test aimed at assessing learning loss among school students due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, through which the Ministry of Education expects to cover 38 lakh students in nearly 1.23 lakh schools in 733 districts across 36 states and Union Territories in government, government-aided and private schools. The survey will cover students of classes 3, 5, 8 and 10.

Vehicles biggest contributor to particulate pollution in Delhi: Study

Among the local sources of pollution in Delhi, vehicles have emerged as the biggest contributor to particulate pollution, with their real-time share touching more than 50% during the early phase of winter, between October 24 and November 8, 2021, an analysis released by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on Thursday showed. The analysis, based on data generated by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, showed that after traffic, household sources, industries and construction were the other leading sources of pollution in the Capital. Particulate matter is the general term for inhalable particles in the air such as aerosols, smoke, fumes, dust, ash and pollen. During the period from October 24 to November 8, which also saw pre-Diwali rush and snarls, the CSE said traffic speeds fell noticeably and congestion touched the pre-pandemic levels. The CSE said it accessed data for every alternate hour, for the period between October 24 and November 8, to arrive at the conclusion that vehicular emissions contributed over 50% to the particulate pollution, followed by household pollution sources, whose share ranged between 12.5-13.5%. This was followed by industries (9.9-13.7%), construction sources (6.7-7.9%), waste burning (4.6-4.9%) and road dust, which contributed between 3.6-4.1% to the total pollution load during the studied period. “Clearly, after the closure of all coal-based power plants, expansion of natural gas usage in industry and controls on dirty fuels, vehicles have emerged as the biggest real-time contributor among all local sources of winter pollution in Delhi this year. Action on transportation has to gather strong momentum. At the same time, action on waste management, clean energy access to households, and dust control must be expedited,” says Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director, research and advocacy, CSE. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) data for this period shows while the hourly average PM2.5 concentration touched nearly 2,000 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3) on Diwali day, stations prior to Diwali were recording peak pollution levels of 500-600µg/m3 during the day — readings that are 10 times the national-safe limit of 60µg/m3. Data from a station such as the one in RK Puram, an area that sees heavy traffic during the day, showed a spike in pollution between 8am and 9am. However, the biggest spike in pollution during the day occurred after 7pm, as the temperatures dropped. Levels at the station ranged between 200-400 µg/m3 through the day, according to the data. CSE said while the analysis only focuses on internal sources of pollution, the contribution from stubble (biomass) burning was low until November 3 and only picked up significantly from November 5. It found that while contribution from sources of pollution in NCR dominated between November 2 and 6, accounting for a total pollution share as high as 70-80%, its share declined after Diwali and Delhi’s own sources of pollution increased, along with stubble burning.

Delhi: Vehicles biggest source of local pollution, says study

NEW DELHI: Vehicles have emerged as the biggest contributor to particulate pollution in Delhi. Their real-time share of vehicular emissions in air pollution has increased to over 50% in early winter (October 24-November 8) this year, says a new analysis released on Thursday by the Centre for Science and Environment. Track the pollution level in your city CSE has analysed the real-time data on the comparative contributions of different sources to the pollutants in the city’s air compiled by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology. CSE accessed data for every alternate hour for the October 24- November 8 period. The pollution sources include transport, industry, construction, waste burning, energy, residential sources, road dust and other groups of sources. Stubble burning and pollution across the National Capital Region were not considered. Congratulations! The analysis shows vehicular pollution at more than half of all sources, followed by household pollution between 12.5 and 13.5%. Industry contributed 9.9-13.7% of the pollutants, construction 6.7-7.9%, waste burning 4.6-4.9% and road dust, 3.6-4.1%. This indicative composition is based on the trend every alternate hour in each 24 hours of the study period. An additional CSE analysis of the traffic speed in the city — a measure of congestion — on 15 key stretches during the study period shows that traffic congestion is back to pre-pandemic levels and correlates with the pollution peaks. The traffic speed improved dramatically during the lockdown in 2020. The mean travel speed now is 26 kmph and in peak hours, 23 kmph. In off-peak hours, it is 32 kmph. The speed in the same period in 2019 was 23 kmph in the peak hour, showing traffic build-up has returned to pre-Covid levels, the report said. The CSE report added, “While Delhi needs to speed up action on all key sources of pollution, it requires urgent action to scale up integrated public transport systems, walking and cycling infrastructure, and city-wide parking area management plans to restrain vehicle use. In absence of this reform, Delhi is unable to enforce emergency action to control traffic volumes during smog episodes. Vehicle numbers are explosive at 1.3 crore.” Anumita Roy Chowdhury, executive director (research and advocacy), CSE, said, “After the closure of all coal-based power plants, expansion of natural gas usage in industry and controls on dirty fuels, vehicles have emerged as the biggest real-time contributor among the local sources of winter pollution in Delhi this year. Action on transportation has to gather strong momentum. At the same time, action on waste management, clean energy access in households and dust control must be speeded up.”

Delhi 'very poor' on Friday, study puts vehicular pollution as top reason

Air pollution became worse after people violated a ban and burnt firecrackers on Diwali on November 4, but the problem was compounded by other sources. Toxic air shrouded Delhi for another day, making it the second most polluted city on the planet as an environment group’s report said vehicles accounted for 50 per cent of the pollution. The air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was in the 'very poor' category at 8am, according to the state-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). Readings below 50 are considered safe and anything above 300 is hazardous or 'severe'. Air pollution became worse after people violated a ban and burnt firecrackers on Diwali on November 4, but the problem was compounded by stubble burning by farmers in areas adjoining Delhi. Green group Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said that vehicles' comprised half of Delhi's pollution in the early phase of this year's winter, from October 24 to November 8. Vehicular effluents were followed by household pollution (12.5-13.5 per cent), industry (9.9-13.7 per cent), construction (6.7-7.9 per cent), waste burning and road dust, said CSE’s analysis based on real-time data. Many other places in north India recorded an AQI between 'very poor' and 'severe'. IQAir, a website which monitors air pollution around the world, had Pakistan’s Karachi on the top of its worst-places list and Delhi next. Kolkata and Mumbai were the other Indian cities on the list. The toxic air pollution levels underline the risks faced by India as it discusses climate priorities at the global negotiations at the COP26 summit in Glasgow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged last week that the world’s third-worst emitter will aim to reach net-zero by 2070. Air pollution costs Indian businesses $95 billion or roughly 3 per cent of its GDP every year, according to U.K.-based non-profit Clean Air Fund and the Confederation of Indian Industry, Bloomberg reported last week.
