Even despite the fact that the seasonal smog in Delhi is intense, the typical day-to-day contribution of smoke from farm fires from the center of October to November 8 has been the bottom in final 4 years, it mentioned. “Predictably, the season’s first episode has been triggered by the combined effect of unfavourable weather conditions (cool and calm winds and inversion), stubble burning and firecrackers,” mentioned Anumita Roychowdhury, govt director, analysis and advocacy, CSE. Compared to the primary smog episode of earlier 4 years, the present smog has matched the length of the primary smog of 2018 and 2020 season — each lasted six days. If stipulations do not give a boost to, it would overtake the 2019 smog that lasted 8 days, the CSE mentioned. The moderate depth of the smog this yr thus far is 329 microgram in step with cubic metre in step with day, which is less than that of the 2020 smog (by way of 7 in step with cent) and 2019 smog (by way of 3 in step with cent). It is extra intense than the 2018 smog (about 9 in step with cent). Lingering on of this yr’s smog for longer length regardless of moderately windier native stipulations may well be because of the loss of air pollution keep watch over measures within the town, the fairway suppose tank mentioned. “While very high concentrations of PM2.5 have hogged attention, the levels of gases – ozone, CO or NO2 — have remained elevated during this smog episode. Also, the ratio of SO2 to NO2 increased on Diwali night indicating increased pollution load from firecrackers. The PM2.5 concentration on Diwali night (8 pm to 8 am) has been the most intense since 2017,” mentioned Avikal Somvanshi, programme supervisor, Urban Lab, CSE. This research is according to the actual time knowledge to be had from the present running air high quality tracking stations in Delhi-NCR and the bigger Indo-Gangetic Plain. “On an average, contribution of smoke to Delhi’s daily PM2.5 during middle of October to November 8 has been the lowest in the last four years. So far, it has recorded on an average 12 per cent per day in contrast to 17 per cent per day in 2020, 14 per cent per day in 2019, and 16 per cent per day in 2018 (as reported by SAFAR),” the CSE mentioned. “If converted to absolute concentrations, the per day contribution of smoke stood at 26 microgram per cubic metre this year so far compared to 35 microgram per cubic metre in 2020, 40 microgram per cubic metre in 2019, and 31 microgram per cubic metre in 2018,” it mentioned. However, the height contribution of smoke to Delhi’s PM stage was once recorded on seventh November when it hit 48 in step with cent. This the second one easiest day-to-day contribution share recorded since such estimation was once began by way of SAFAR in 2018. The easiest unmarried day contribution share has been 58 in step with cent recorded on November 5, 2018.
Smog News In Delhi:
Smog In Delhi: The first dense smog of the season has covered Delhi and the National Capital Region. This smog is likely to engulf Delhi and surrounding areas for the next two days. The Center for Science and Environment (CSE) has given this information regarding smog in Delhi. According to the report, the seasonal smog in Delhi is dense, but the average daily contribution of stubble burning from mid-October to November 8 has been the lowest in the last four years. Contribution of smoke to smog lowest in last four years CSE said, “The contribution of smoke to the average daily PM 2.5 of Delhi during October to November 8 has been the lowest in the last four years. So far it has been recorded on an average of 12 per cent per day as compared to 17 per cent last year, 14 per cent in 2019 and 16 per cent in 2018. Learn how the mist formed? “Obviously the combined effect of adverse weather conditions (cold and calm winds), stubble and crackers burning has turned the weather hazy,” said Anumita Roy Chowdhury, executive director of research at CSE. There was haze for eight days in 2019 CSE said that comparing the first occurrence of haze of the last four years, the present haze matches the first haze period of 2018 and 2020 which lasted for six days. If the conditions do not improve, it could last longer than the haze of 2019 which lasted for eight days.
The average intensity of the smog in Delhi so far is 329 microgram per cubic metre per day. New Delhi: The first severe smog episode has hit Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and is expected to last for another two days, green think-tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said today. Even though the seasonal smog in Delhi is intense, the average daily contribution of smoke from farm fires from the middle of October to November 8 has been the lowest in last four years, it said. “Predictably, the season’s first episode has been triggered by the combined effect of unfavourable weather conditions (cool and calm winds and inversion), stubble burning and firecrackers,” said Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director, research and advocacy, CSE. The Center for Science and Environment (CSE) said on Wednesday that the first episode of severe fog hit Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and is expected to continue for another two days. Although seasonal smog in Delhi is severe, the average daily contribution of smoke from farm fires from mid-October to 8 November was the lowest in the past four years. As expected, the first episode of the season was triggered by the combined effect of unfavorable weather conditions (cold, calm winds and inversion), burning hay and firecrackers. Compared to the first episode of smog in the past four years, the current smog matches the duration of the first smog of the 2018 and 2020 season – both of which lasted six days. And if conditions do not improve, the CSE said, it could exceed 2019’s eight-day smog The average smog density so far this year has been 329 micrograms per cubic meter per day, which is lower than the intensity of 2020 smog (up 7 percent) and 2019 smog (up 3 percent). It is more intense than the smog of 2018 (about 9 percent). The Green Research Center said that this year’s smog persistence for longer despite relatively severe local conditions may be due to a lack of pollution control measures in the city. “While very high concentrations of PM2.5 have attracted attention, levels of gases – ozone, carbon dioxide or nitrogen dioxide – remained high during the smog episode. Also, the ratio of SO2 to NO2 increased on the night of Diwali indicating an Increasing pollution load from fireworks.Avikal Somvanshi, program manager at Urban Lab, CSE, said the concentration of PM2.5 on Diwali night (from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.) was the most intense since 2017. Converted to absolute concentrations, the daily contribution of smoke is 26 micrograms per cubic meter this year so far compared to 35 micrograms per cubic meter in 2020, 40 micrograms per cubic meter in 2019, and 31 micrograms per cubic meter in 2018, “he said However, the peak smoke contribution to the PM level was recorded in Delhi on November 7 when it reached 48 per cent. This is the second highest daily contribution percentage recorded since Saffar began this recognition in 2018. The highest one-day contribution rate was 58% on November 5, 2018. “The persistent phenomenon of smog is a public health emergency. This requires urgent emergency action on major combustion sources (vehicles, industry, waste incineration) and dust sources (construction and roads) to prevent further pollution trapping when there is no wind to blow them away. We Need to work out in terms of pollution source and hotspot.”

Delhi’s air high quality improved marginally to succeed in the ‘very poor’ class on Wednesday because the capital recorded an total air high quality index (AQI) of 372 – a drop from Tuesday’s 404, knowledge from the Central Air pollution Management Board (CPCB) confirmed. Based on specialists, although native meteorological situations largely remained the identical, a slight drop within the velocity of wind that’s bringing stubble emissions to Delhi has led to this slight enchancment within the final 24 hours. Forecasts on Wednesday confirmed transport-level winds will as soon as once more decide up from Thursday onwards, with two days of ‘extreme’ air a chance as soon as once more. Based on the System of Air High quality and Climate Forecasting And Analysis (Safar), winds that transport stubble emissions from Punjab and Haryana to Delhi, are anticipated to select up once more over the subsequent two days. This more likely to deteriorate over the subsequent two days. Although the variety of farm fireplace incidents went as much as 5,317 on Wednesday from 3,476 on Tuesday, their share within the total air pollution mixture of Delhi stayed at 27%. Gufran Beig, founder and mission director at Safar, says a mixture of robust transport-level winds, together with calm wind velocity over Delhi is more likely to see ‘extreme’ air once more. “If the farm fires stay the identical, the share of stubble burning will begin growing once more from Thursday as winds from Punjab and Haryana will decide up velocity. In the meantime, Delhi will see calm wind situations, which can assist lure pollution over town,” he stated. In an evaluation finished by the Middle for Science and Setting (CSE) on Wednesday, the physique stated this smog episode is predicted to final one other two days, with it already matching the primary smog episodes of 2018 and 2020 – every of which lasted six days . “Whereas very excessive concentrations of PM2.5 have hogged consideration, the degrees of gases – ozone, CO or NO2 — have additionally remained elevated throughout this smog episode,” says Avikal Somvanshi, program supervisor, City Lab, CSE, including that if situations don’t enhance, this smog episode is more likely to overtake the 2019 smog episode, which lasted eight days. Delhi recorded a minimal temperature of 13.4 levels Celsius on Wednesday, the bottom to date this season. It was 13.5 levels on Tuesday. “A gradual drop in minimal temperature is predicted over the subsequent seven days, touching 11 levels Celsius by November 16,” a met official stated.

Adverse weather conditions, farm fires and Diwali crackers have triggered the first episode, with the contribution of farm fires being the lowest in the last four years. A deeper analysis dispels the myth that winter pollution is only a particulate problem – it is also a harmful cocktail of toxic gases including ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide. The concentration of 5 on Diwali night (8 pm to 8 pm) has been the highest since 2017, while the proportion of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide has been high, indicating the effect of crackers. The current severe smog episode requires immediate emergency measures in all areas to prevent further pollution and worsening of the situation, while a long-term strategy needs to be implemented immediately. New Delhi, November 10, 2021: The first severe smog episode has reached Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and is expected to last for the next two days. A new analysis by the Center for Science and Environment (CSE) shows that smog has engulfed the entire Indo-Gangetic plain. The region is in the grip of a public health emergency and urgent and drastic measures are needed to reduce the pollution peak. “Predictably, the first episode of the season has started with a combined effect of unfavorable weather conditions (cool and calm winds and inversion), stubble burning and firecrackers. But even though the seasonal haze in Delhi is intense, from mid-October to November 8, The average daily contribution of farm stubble smoke to 2021 has been the lowest in the past four years. But since November 6, its contribution has risen to 48 per cent on November 7, and is still high,” the permission said. Roychowdhury, executive director, research and advocacy, CSE. “While very high concentrations of PM2.5 have attracted attention, levels of gases – ozone, CO or NO2 – remained elevated during this smog episode. Also, the ratio of SO2 to NO2 increased on Diwali night , which reflects the rising pollution load from crackers. The concentration of PM2.5 on Diwali night (8 pm to 8 am) has been the highest since 2017,” said Avikal Somvanshi, Program Manager, Urban Lab, CSE it is said. The analysis is based on real-time data available from currently operational air quality monitoring stations in Delhi-NCR and the larger Indo-Gangetic plain. For this analysis, a large amount of data points have been cleaned and data gaps have been addressed based on the USEPA method. The analysis covers 156 Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) spread across 67 cities in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. The meteorological data for analysis has been taken from the Palam Meteorological Center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Fire count data were obtained from NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System, specifically, using the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) product. The contribution of farm stubble smoke to Delhi’s air quality has been estimated from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. First smog of the season: PM2.5 concentration in Delhi exceeded 250 micrograms per cubic meter (ug/m3) (breakpoint for severe AQI category) on November 4 and continues to hover above it seven days later. Its maximum concentration was 501 ug/m3 on 5 November, then gradually decreased to 256 ug/m3 on 8 November. Since then, it has started climbing again and stood at 264 ug/m3 on 9 November. Hourly levels are rising again on 10th November (checked by 10am) and if weather conditions do not improve, 10th November could also exceed the 24-hour average of 250 ug/m3. It is to be noted that the CSE evaluation is based on monitoring in Delhi alone and the daily average is assumed from midnight to midnight, which is different from the methodology of CPCB. The CPCB uses the GRAP for its trend counter, uses the average of all stations in Delhi and NCR cities, while the CPCB uses the AQI bulletin from 4 pm to 4 pm as a measure of its daily value. Is. Compared to the first smog episode of the previous four years, the current smog corresponds to the first smog period of the 2018 and 2020 seasons – both lasting six days. If the situation does not improve, it may overtake the eight-day smog of 2019.
The average intensity of the smog in Delhi so far is 329 microgram per cubic metre per day.New Delhi: The first severe smog episode has hit Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and is expected to last for another two days, green think-tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said today.Even though the seasonal smog in Delhi is intense, the average daily contribution of smoke from farm fires from the middle of October to November 8 has been the lowest in last four years, it said.”Predictably, the season’s first episode has been triggered by the combined effect of unfavourable weather conditions (cool and calm winds and inversion), stubble burning and firecrackers,” said Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director, research and advocacy, CSE.Compared to the first smog episode of previous four years, the current smog has matched the duration of the first smog of 2018 and 2020 season — both lasted six days. If conditions don’t improve, it might overtake the 2019 smog that lasted eight days, the CSE said. The average intensity of the smog this year so far is 329 microgram per cubic metre per day, which is lower than that of the 2020 smog (by 7 per cent) and 2019 smog (by 3 per cent). It is more intense than the 2018 smog (about 9 per cent).Lingering on of this year’s smog for longer duration despite relatively windier local conditions might be due to the lack of pollution control measures in the city, the green think tank said.”While very high concentrations of PM2.5 have hogged attention, the levels of gases – ozone, CO or NO2 — have remained elevated during this smog episode. Also, the ratio of SO2 to NO2 increased on Diwali night indicating increased pollution load from firecrackers. The PM2.5 concentration on Diwali night (8 pm to 8 am) has been the most intense since 2017,” said Avikal Somvanshi, programme manager, Urban Lab, CSE.This analysis is based on the real time data available from the current working air quality monitoring stations in Delhi-NCR and the larger Indo-Gangetic Plain.”On an average, contribution of smoke to Delhi’s daily PM2.5 during middle of October to November 8 has been the lowest in the last four years. So far, it has recorded on an average 12 per cent per day in contrast to 17 per cent per day in 2020, 14 per cent per day in 2019, and 16 per cent per day in 2018 (as reported by SAFAR),” the CSE said.”If converted to absolute concentrations, the per day contribution of smoke stood at 26 microgram per cubic metre this year so far compared to 35 microgram per cubic metre in 2020, 40 microgram per cubic metre in 2019, and 31 microgram per cubic metre in 2018,” it said. However, the peak contribution of smoke to Delhi’s PM level was recorded on 7th November when it hit 48 per cent. This the second highest daily contribution percentage recorded since such estimation was started by SAFAR in 2018.The highest single day contribution percentage has been 58 per cent recorded on November 5, 2018.(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)
Haze in Delhi: The first dense smog of the season has covered Delhi and the National Capital Region. There was haze for eight days in 2019 CSE said that comparing the first occurrence of haze of the last four years, the current haze matches the first haze period of 2018 and 2020 which lasted for six days. If the conditions do not improve, it could last longer than the haze of 2019 which lasted for eight days.
