Programme Officer for Renewable Energy Programme

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi, researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable. 

CSE invites applications for the post of Programme Officer for its Renewable Energy Programme. The selected applicant will primarily be responsible for writing the Programme’s advocacy and research publications and coordinating with CSE’s editorial and production teams for publishing them. 

About the Programme: 

The Renewable Energy Programme in CSE is dedicated to ensuring development and implementation of sound renewable energy policies and programmes at national and local government levels, to meet the twin objectives of combating climate change and ensuring energy security. The Programme works towards improving energy access while accommodating for environmental and social externalities, as well as mainstreaming renewable energy in decarbonising the power sector. 

Job Profile: 

The candidate is expected to manage and lead the advocacy campaign of the Renewable Energy programme team; taking part in policy research, editing and formalizing the output reports, communications and outreach of the various policy researches and capacity building efforts to push for the objectives of the programme. The job will entail writing and editing of reports and policy papers with handhold with the research team, regular communication with the stakeholders through write-ups and articles through web, print and electronic media; and take active participation in interacting with stakeholders – policy makers and regulators in different government ministries/departments, scientific and medical community, media, industry, and NGOs – to push for change.  

The job would also require effective coordination with CSE’s communication department and Down To Earth team, and act as a media interface for the team. The advocacy campaign will include building networks, making presentations and organizing and participating in meetings and conferences. The candidate should be open to travel within and outside India. 

Qualification and Experience: 

Applicants should have: 

  • A graduate degree, preferably in any physical science subject.
  • A minimum four years of experience in policy analysis, science writing and reporting for print and electronic media
  • A skill for analytical reportage and number crunching, and an ability to identify and report quickly on developing stories.
  • Ability to explain scientific issues lucidly.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, policies, programmes and good practices will be considered as an asset. 

NOTE: The job is based in Delhi and may require travel across the country in line with CSE’s research initiatives.
