The Global Action Plan (GAP) on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2015, has remained the blueprint for addressing AMR. However, over the years, the need to update it has been strongly felt.
The Political Declaration on AMR, adopted during the 79th UN General Assembly High-level Meeting, has requested the quadripartite organisations -- World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, World Organization for Animal Health, and the United Nations Environment Programme -- to update GAP-AMR by 2026 in consultation with the Member States
The Global Leaders Group (GLG) on AMR, aimed at accelerating political action on the issue, is also supporting this process
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is bringing together about 100 top stakeholders, experts and national AMR focal points from Africa and Asia at this three-day virtual conference to understand and collate the viewpoints and perspectives from Global South on updating the GAP-AMR. The discussions are expected to inform the global discourse through a formal submission of a report by CSE.
