Rajasthan records over 100 days of extreme weather annually:117 deaths last year, more than 150,000 homes destroyed
Extreme weather has emerged as a grave and persistent challenge across India, with Rajasthan among the worst affected. The term refers to severe and unseasonal climatic events such as heatwaves, cold waves, lightning strikes, storms, cyclones, cloudbursts, floods and landslides. In Rajasthan, the situation has been particularly alarming. Over the past four years, excluding 2023, the state has recorded more than 100 days of extreme weather annually. Each year, such events have claimed over 100 lives. These findings were highlighted in the ‘State of India’s Environment 2026’ report published by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) and its magazine Down To Earth. The report issues a stark warning for the country, and especially for Rajasthan.
