National Pollution Control Day 2025: India’s Air Pollution Crisis; The Wake-Up Call
Some days demand reflection not out of ritual, but responsibility. National Pollution Control Day, observed annually on December 2, is one such day — urging us to confront the environmental realities shaping public health in India. It is a day rooted in memory, driven by science, and anchored in the need for collective action. According to Nature, India generates 9.3 million tonnes of plastic waste annually. Meanwhile, the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) reports that 70% of urban wastewater remains untreated. Consequences include microplastics entering the food chain, chemical pollution of lakes and rivers, and long-term ecological loss.
