Project Background

The area of the Golf Course was reclaimed from a landfill and turned into a prestigious course with international standards. The nallah drainage of sewage from surrounding areas and poor-quality surface lakes that could otherwise hold rainwater for irrigation is marred by the site. The consequent need for more irrigation water and the governmentally mandated requirement to treat the water bodies within the Naya Qila led the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA) to approach AYALA Natural Biological Systems.

A holistic system was designed to purify 2 MLD of sewage nalla, rehabilitate the surface water in Naya Qila in the process of ecologic collapse, and reduce dependence on tap water for irrigation. It is a Nature-Based Solution on Ayala's NBS technology that operates on natural methods with absolutely no energy consumption. It passively treats sewage water for irrigation and pond rehabilitation while providing an additional rainwater catchment and recharge site for the ground and surface water.

The NBS was constructed in several months and is a part of the golf course landscape, taking advantage of natural contours and topography. The NBS passively treats sewage water for irrigation and pond rehabilitation while providing an additional rainwater catchment and recharge site for the ground and surface water. Now, the HGA is the only golf course in India, and maybe worldwide, that is enjoying unlimited excellent quality irrigation water, free of charge, all year around.

Treatment Mechanism

The NBS works by applying the principle in which water is sequentially settled, clarified, and treated by specific hydraulic conditions and the natural biotic/abiotic components. The result is biological consumption of pollutants and organic matter and the production of high-quality water on the outlet.

The maintenance of the NBS is local and affordable and provides a significant social benefit. Thus a balance is struck between all the human and environmental elements of the Natural Biological System, forming a sustainable ecological process that continues indefinitely.
