Advanced Training on Planning and Designing for Treatment of Faecal Sludge & Septage

Water Programme conducted a 'Advanced Training cum Exposure Visit on Planning and Designing of Faecal Sludge and Septage (FSS) from 22-27 July’ 2019. The overall objective was to provide hands on training on planning and designing for treatment of faecal sludge and septage with case studies of global best practices.

The training included class room based sessions from 23^rd-25^th July run by Master Trainers Mr David Robbins on planning and designing FSTP, Mr DoraiNarayana on designing for Co-Treatment of FSS in STP and sessions on Co-composting of FSS with municipal solid waste by Mr Abdullah Al-Muyeed&Mr.SumanKanti (WaterAid Bangladesh).

The sessions included group exercises and discussion such as exercise on Planning for FSTP in a sample city, quantification of FS generation in a city, designing Planted Drying Beds and exercise on designing for Co-Treatment in an STP (taking the case study of Bijnor STP).

The training participant included engineers from UP Jal Nigam, officials from U.P. Urban Local Bodies, NMCG, Bihar SMCG and consultants.

The training was followed by an exposure visit to Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant in Bhubaneswar and Co-treatment unit in Puri, Odisha on 26-27 July’2019. The exposure visit is being conducted in collaboration with Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB).MrPrasantaMohapatra (Project Director, (OWSSB)) interacted with the participants and shared Odisha's experience in designing and implementing FSTPs in the state.
