Sustainable Food Systems Programme of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is looking for an experienced candidate as a Deputy Programme Manager to work for its antibiotic resistance programme.
Antibiotic resistance is a silent pandemic known to impact human health as well as food security, livelihood and environment and thereby attainment of sustainable development goals. Development and spread of antibiotic resistance is accelerated by antibiotic misuse/overuse in humans, animals and crops and spread of antibiotics, resistance bacteria and resistance genes through environmental routes such as farms, antibiotic manufacturing factories and household waste.
The programme aims to address the animal and environmental aspects of antibiotic resistance by reducing antibiotic misuse/overuse in food production systems of poultry, dairy, fisheries and crops and containing the spread of resistance through key environmental routes such as pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The programme involves research for developing policy reports/briefs/position statements and articles; convening workshops and engaging with stakeholders to advocate for desired change in the policy; building capacity of stakeholders to support implementation; and coordinating with CSE laboratory on studies.
It is a decade old programme with a strong presence and significant impact. It focuses at national/subnational level with some global engagement/perspective.
About CSE
CSE is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable.
Job profile:
The candidate is expected to manage and lead policy research, advocacy, communication and capacity building efforts in order to push for the objectives of the programme. The job will entail research, writing reports and articles, interacting with stakeholders – policy makers and regulators in different government ministries/departments, scientific community (such as doctors, veterinarians, scientists), other stakeholders such as farmers, media, industry, and NGOs – to push for change.
The research would include collection, analysis and synthesis of data/information from the ground, in addition to other secondary and primary sources. It would also require coordination with CSE's environment monitoring laboratory (EML). Writing for Down To Earth, CSE’s fortnightly magazine, and attending to media queries. The advocacy campaign will include building networks, making presentations and organizing and participating in meetings and conferences. The candidate should be open to travel within and outside India. The candidate is expected to work independently and also manage other responsibilities or resource in the team, if required.
