Seventh CSE JnNURM workshop 'Energy and Resource Efficiency in Urban Water Management'

CSE is assisting the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India under the Comprehensive Capacity Building Programme (CCBP)- National Urban Renewal Mission (NURM) in organising the regional workshop on ‘Energy and Resource Efficiency in Urban Water Management’ on December 20, 2013 at Casuarina Hall, India Habitat Centre (IHC), New Delhi. This workshop is supported by the Delhi Jal Board and Urban Development Department, Govt. of NCT of Delhi – as the local partner state. The other target states participating in the workshop are namely – Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Uttarakhand.

This workshop is a part series of workshops being organised in different regions of India by CSE to assist the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. Earlier state / regional workshops were organised at Jaipur, Guwahati , Lucknow, Kolkata, Puducherry and Goa.   

All urban local bodies including the mission cities need to expand the accessibility and availability of water supply and sanitation facilities to make the cities vibrant. But the opportunities under NURM come with a challenge to mainstream the Best Management Practices and reforms targeted at energy and resource efficiency measures in urban water management for long term sustainability. 

The objectives of the regional workshop are:

  • To generate awareness about the best management practices (BMPs), state of the art knowledge and reforms in the area of energy and resources efficiency.

  • To discuss with key stakeholders the concept, issues/barriers and experiences in mainstreaming of   BMPs/NURM reforms in the sustainable water management area.

  • To explore capacity building support required to implement projects aimed at mainstreaming BMPs and reforms in the NURM schemes and across all urban local bodies.

Several experts from from CSE, other Centre of Excellence(s) identified by the central/state government, faculty and researchers IITs, professional bodies, industry, practitioners and NGOs advocating sustainable and efficient urban water management will be presenting at the one day regional workshop. Key officials from Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India and Urban Development Departments of the target states – Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Uttarakhand - will be attending the workshop. 

Municipal functionaries from local bodies, development authorities and public health departments – both policy makers and senior officials involved in planning and implementation of NURM projects in the target states are encouraged to apply for the workshop. Please note that attendance to the workshop is through invitation only.
